Atanda, i am tired cos this is my fourth year in this house and my landlord has incr£ased house R£nt 3 times and just yesterday he brought the fourth R£nt incr£ament N0tice again.This is a serious issue but Atanda will break it down.
Normally ehn you as a Tenant supposed ask your landlord to write how many years interval him go dey increase house rent for the Tenancy agreement to avoid this kind wahala.
But if your Landlord no write am for Tenancy agreement
Na wahala for you oooo.
So in that situation ehn, if your Landlord just dey increase house Rent every year the way him like
You can SU£ your Landlord on two conditions only
1. If your Landlord served you the notice of rent increament less than 3 months to when your rent will expire.
That rent increament is not valid and will be struck out by the c0urt, he supposed to notify you early like 6 or 3 months ahead so dat u go fit arrange yourself.
2. If the Rent increament is more than 50% when the landlord did not make laudable changes to the building and it’s Facilities, such increament will be considered to be Arbitrary.
But if we leave out this two conditions ehn.
Let me just be frank with you.
The law is silent on how often a Landlord can increase house rent due to the Fact that the G0vernm£nt itself has failed in providing good h0using structures for its citizens and since the £conomy is also getting w0rst each year.
Definitely the value of maintening an existing building increases too, which will definitely affect the house R£nt too for the Landlord to record gain for his h0use business for the year.
Let me give an example.
The rain that fell last weel brought down the fence of one Landlord house in my street.
And the T£nancy law says that external repairs is the full responsibility of the landlord
Now, that landlord will buy blocks, cement and even pay labour at the new rate of which you the T£nants won’t support him oooo
Even when the roof is leaking, he will buy them at the new prices too.
House maintenance does not end and the Landlord is fully responsible for them.
But if the £conomy was getting better, you all will be surprised because Landlords will stared serving you Notice of R£nt R£duction.
