Atanda, i want to take this matter up L£gally
This is what happened
Last month, something £xpensive was st0len from our Transf0rner and they divide the m0ney and share it to each h0use so we can buy another one.
I told them clearly that for now, i am passing through a lot and i can’t afford to c0ntribute anything.
After f!xing it, the next thing they did was to come and disc0nnect my Light even when am not owing IKEDC B!LL.
Atanda, i can’t take this
ANS:
First of all, no one can f0rce you to belong to any ass0ciation in Nigeria, so therefore the decision of the association is only bound on it’s members.
NERC Act states clearly that, It is not the responsibility of electricity customer or community to buy, replace or repair electricity transformers, poles and related equipment used in the supply of electricity.
So any community, street or estate wey go buy Transforner just do an for their own pocket oooo..
E no concern anybody and you don’t have the right to ask anyone in the street to pay for it or force them or disconnect their light because they did not pay for it.
It is a cr’iminal 0ffence for anyone to tamper or disconnect electricity installation in any part of Nigeria
Including estate, street or quaters, it is an 0ffence punishable with maximum of 21 years !mpris0nment (NERC Act)
So therefore you can get the chairman of the Landlord Association arr£sted immediately for this Unlawful Act.
Electricity supply and equipment are public utilities and only approved utility company staff can disc0nnect a user/customer in strict adherence to the connection and disconnection Regulations of the NERC
Because an Estate or street decide to contribute money to buy Transforner or any public utility which is supposed to be the responsibility of the G0vernm£nt.
That’s just a kind Gesture from them. That does not transfer ownership to them or p0wer to control it.
It remains a public pr0perty
But oga pls calmdown.
You know our g0vt are irresponsible in this part of the w0rld.
If we wait for them to fix everything ehn.
Then absolutely nothing will work.
I know you have a right, but cooperation with others in the community will bring growth to you all and you will all benefit from it.
Ignorance of the law is not an excuse
